The environment is the most important thing that has happened to humanity. The environment has been silent and lives in isolation. Yet, we profit from it so greatly that, we lost sight of the actually carrying capacity of the environment.

As an environmental and development economist, I feel sad for our nation when it comes to the management of the environment. We must understand that, the environment cannot assimilate matter beyond its carrying capacity and this could cause a lot of disaster. Yet, many lives are lost.

Environmental Protection Agency is here in Ghana and we are expecting the authorities to act, yet they are not. My deepest fear for our nation is that, we are not prepared to contain any disaster emanating from the use of the environment.

The question I ask is that, what happens to us if we have a major oil spillage..? Ghana must prepare and deal justly with the environment.
